CLASSES
Calling all actors! At Black Dog, kids can express themselves and make friends through acting & improv activities that promote personal expression and social interaction in a welcoming and friendly environment. Our classes are appropriate for beginners hoping to improve their confidence and public speaking skills as well as experienced actors looking to practice their craft and grow as performers.
Our curriculum changes with each session so each class brings new games, scenes, monologues, and experiences.
BEGINNING ACTING
Grades K-2 | 1 Hour | Wednesdays @ 3:30pm
Our youngest actors are introduced to all the elements of putting on a play including costumes, movement, speaking, and working together to create art! We play games, act out fairy tale characters, learn simple improv games, and explore our imaginations. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.
$150 for Eight Week Session | August 24 - October 19 (No class Oct. 5th)
IMPROV I
Grades 2-4 | 1 Hour | Mondays @ 4pm
Improv (short for "improvisation") is a wonderful skill for kids to have! Games like "Restaurant Quirks" and "What Are You Doing?" teach kids creativity, healthy interaction, teamwork, and strong communication skills. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.
$150 for Eight-Week Session | August 22 - October 24 (No class Sept. 5 and 26)
IMPROV II
Grades 5-8 | 1 Hour | Mondays @ 5:00 pm
This class teaches kids how to think on their feet, stretches their imaginations, and allows them to express themselves as individuals and as a team! We explore different characters, emotions, and comedy through fun games that build confidence and public speaking skills. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.
$115 for Six Week Session | August 22 - October 24 (No class Sept. 5 and 26)
ACTING I
Grades 2-4 | 1 Hour | Tuesdays @ 4:00 pm
Acting for elementary students. Kids enjoy acting games, movement, costumes, character creation and introduction to monologues in our Wellington studio. Our students learn self-confidence, active listening, and teamwork. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.

ACTING II
Grades 5-8 | 1 Hour | Tuesdays @ 5:00 pm
This class is designed for both newcomers to the performing arts as well as kids with on-stage experience. We'll explore acting through scene work, theater games, monologues, advanced character development and more. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.
$150 for Eight Week Session | August 30 - October 18
BAK Middle School of the Arts Communication Arts Audition Prep
Grades 4 & 5 | 1.25 Hours | Thursdays @ 4pm-5:15pm
This class covers everything you need to know about the audition process for rising 4th and 5th graders. Students will review how to critique a short film, work on their creative writing skills using a photo prompt, and will write and polish a one-minute speeches with special emphasis on memorization and presentation. The workshop will cover what to wear to the audition, what adjudicators are looking for, and how to stand out from the crowd. Taught by former Bak Artist-in-Residence and Drama Dept. Head at Wellington High School, Mark Fetterly. Parents will receive information on the choice program and audition process so you're well prepared!

BAK Middle School of the Arts Theater Audition Prep
Grades 4 & 5 | 1.25 Hours | Thursdays @ 5:30pm - 6:45pm
This class is designed for students interested in auditioning for either Theater or Musical Theater. Depending on their Art Area of choice, they will practice cold readings, open scenes, acting games, and vocal exercises. They will also be instructed in what to wear, how the audition process will work, and how to show off their "directability" and creativity. Taught by former Bak Artist-in-Residence and Drama Dept. Head at Wellington High School, Mark Fetterly. Parents will receive information on the choice program and audition process so you're well prepared!

FALL PRODUCTION - AESOP'S TABLES
Grades 2-8 | 2 Hours | Wednesdays @ 4:30pm - 6:30pm
We are excited to present our fall production that will rehearse in our studio and be performed in an area theater. Aesop's Tables is an original play that takes Aesop's famous stories and turns them upside down – in a pizza parlor! This show has everything...a suspicious villain, a charming heroine, and one very foxy Fox. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 4:30pm. The performance will take place Saturday, November 19th (location TBA). Actors should be fluent readers, but do not need to have anything prepared for the audition. Beginners welcome! If your child is cast, tuition will cover the rehearsal period, costumes, show tee shirt, and four free tickets to the show. Please register your aspiring actor prior to auditions. An invoice will only be issued if he or she is cast.
$350 for Twelve Week Session | August 24 - November 19
