CLASSES

Calling all actors! At Black Dog, kids can express themselves and make friends through acting & improv activities that promote personal expression and social interaction in a welcoming and friendly environment. Our classes are appropriate for beginners hoping to improve their confidence and public speaking skills as well as experienced actors looking to practice their craft and grow as performers.

ACTING

Grades 2-5   |   1 Hour    |   Mondays @ 4pm

This is a great class for kids who want to learn how to create characters, read a script, follow stage directions and discover what it takes to perform on stage! In addition to playing acting games and learning how to project our voices, we will rehearse a short play that we will perform on the last day of class.

IMPROV

Grades 2-8   |   1 Hour   |   Tuesdays @ 5pm

Kids will make friends and have fun as we explore the hilarious art of Improv. Each week we'll play different improv games such as Party Quirks, 7 Worlds, and Freeze. We'll learn to project our voices, create meaningful dialogue, and invent interesting characters on the spot. Remember to always say "yes"!

BEGINNING ACTING

Grades K-1   |   1 Hour    |   Wednesdays @ 4pm

Our youngest actors are introduced to art of story telling and the characters that bring our favorite stories to life. Each week we will tell our stories using costumes, movement, our voices, and teamwork to create art! We also play acting games, learn simple improv games, and explore our imaginations. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.

SPRING PRODUCTION - TWO WEEKS IN THE WOODS

Grades 2-8   |   2 Hours   |   Thursdays @ 4:30pm - 6:30pm

We are excited to present our spring production that will rehearse in our studio and be performed in an area theater. Two Weeks in the Woods is an original play that takes Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and reimagines it in a sleepaway camp. There's no better way to introduce kids to Shakespeare than with modern language and charismatic characters that are fun to love and hate. Pack your footlocker and join us in the woods for a story of friendship, betrayal, drama, and magic.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 4:30pm. The performance will take place Saturday, May 6th (location TBA). Actors should be fluent readers, but do not need to have anything prepared for the audition. Beginners welcome! If your child is cast, tuition will cover the rehearsal period, costumes, show tee shirt, and four free tickets to the show. Please register your aspiring actor below prior to auditions. An invoice will only be issued if he or she is cast.

$400 for Twelve-Week Session    |    January 26 - May 6 (No rehearsal March 9 or March 23)
