FALL 2024 CLASSES

Calling all actors! At Black Dog, kids and teens can express themselves and make friends through theater, acting, & improv activities that promote personal expression and social interaction in a welcoming and friendly environment. Our classes are appropriate for beginners hoping to improve their confidence and public speaking skills as well as experienced actors looking to practice their craft and grow as performers.

Our curriculum changes with each session so each class brings new games, scenes, monologues, and experiences.

BEGINNING ACTING

Grades K-1    |    45 Minutes    |   Tuesdays @ 4:00pm

Children learn a tremendous amount from playing. Drama games are a natural extension of a young child's normal play behavior. The difference, however, is that drama activities also teach children to understand rules, instructions, and appropriate group behavior. Drama games also help to build confidence in those who are shy or reluctant. We invite our youngest friends to come tell stories and share their imaginations with us! On the last day of class our actors will perform for parents.  *Please note this is a drop-off class. Parents are welcome to stay the first class to observe.*

$175 for Eight-Week Session    |    AUGUST 13 – OCTOBER 1

INTRO TO TECH THEATER

Grades 4-9   |   1 Hour   |   Tuesdays @ 5pm

An introduction to the technical aspects of live theater, this class will explore everything from set design to props, lighting, sound, and costuming. We will learn about all the technical responsibilities in the theater, including Stage Management, and create technical elements for our fall production, “Snow White and the Seven.” Students will learn to break down a script, identify the technical needs, and work on light cues, props, set design, and more. We will have a tech rehearsal on 10/4 at Black Dog and the performance on 10/5 at Stage West Theater in Lake Worth. Each student will receive two complimentary tickets to the performance on October 5th. Some students may be invited to serve in technical roles for the production.

CABARET WORKSHOP

Grades 4-9   |   1 Hour   |   Tuesdays @ 6pm

Life is a Cabaret! In this workshop we will explore Cabaret, a style of entertainment that typically includes a collection of short performances of music, theater, and dance strung together over the course of the performance. Participants will choose an age-appropriate performance piece. In addition to learning how to write a memorable monologue/introduction, performers will work on interpretation, storytelling, and character development. Students will perform at Stage West Theater on October 5th as part of our Fall Main Stage Production. Each performer will receive two complimentary tickets to the show. We will have a tech rehearsal at Black Dog on 10/4 and the performance on 10/5 at Stage West Theater in Lake Worth.
