WINTER 2024 CLASSES - SESSION I

Calling all actors! At Black Dog, kids can express themselves and make friends through acting & improv activities that promote personal expression and social interaction in a welcoming and friendly environment. Our classes are appropriate for beginners hoping to improve their confidence and public speaking skills as well as experienced actors looking to practice their craft and grow as performers. 

Our curriculum changes with each session so each class brings new games, scenes, monologues, and experiences.

MUSICAL THEATER I 

Grades 2-4   |   1 Hour   |   Mondays @ 4pm   

We're looking for our Triple Threats! Does your child love to sing, dance, and act? In this class we put all three together. Taught by Mr. Mark, this class is a great introduction for newcomers or experienced performers. We will learn simple choreography and scene work from fun, kid-friendly musicals like The Lion King, Shrek, and The Little Mermaid! Parents will enjoy a showcase on the last day of class. 

$175 for Eight-Week Session    |    January 22 - March 11 

MUSICAL THEATER II 

Grades 5-9   |   1 Hour   |   Mondays @ 5pm   

Does your child dream of performing on Broadway someday? This is the class for them! Taught by Mr. Mark, this class is a great introduction for newcomers or experienced performers. We will learn choreography and scene work from popular Broadway hits like Hamilton, SIX, and Mean Girls! Parents will enjoy a showcase on the last day of class. 

$175 for Eight-Week Session    |    January 22 - March 11 

BEGINNING ACTING

Grades K-1    |    45 Minutes    |   Wednesdays @ 3:00pm   

 

Our youngest actors are introduced to art of story telling and the characters that bring our favorite stories to life. Each week we will explore a different children's book, then tell our own version of the story using costumes, movement, our voices, and teamwork to create art! We also play acting games, learn simple improv games, and explore our imaginations. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.  *Please note this is a drop-off class. Parents are welcome to stay the first class to observe.*

$175 for Eight-Week Session    |    January 24 - March 13 

ACTING I 

Grades 2-4   |   1 Hour   |   Wednesdays @ 4pm   

This is the perfect class for young students to learn all about the art of acting. We learn about character creation, creating scenes with a partner, confidence in performing in front of our peers, and how to focus on memorization and following direction. This class will prepare a new actor for auditions and will help experienced actors get more out of their time on stage. On the last day of class we will perform in a showcase for parents.

ACTING II 

Grades 5-9   |   1 Hour   |   Wednesdays @ 5pm   

This class dives in deeper to the art of acting for our older students. We will learn how to break down a monologue, how to use our five senses to deepen our understanding of our stage presence, and work on memorizing and presenting duet scenes. This class is appropriate for beginners and actors with onstage experience. On the last day of class we will perform in a showcase for parents.

SPRING PRODUCTION -  The Knight is Young

Grades 2-9   |   2 Hours   |   Thursdays @ 4:45 - 6:45pm

 

We are excited to present our spring production that will rehearse in our studio and be performed at Stage West Theater at Palm Beach State College. The Knight is Young is an original play that takes a comedic look at the Knights of the Round Table and their fantastic quests! With Spamalot back on Broadway, this is the perfect time to introduce kids to the wonderfully entertaining tales of King Arthur, Merlyn, Lancelot, and the Lady of the Lake. 

 

Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 25th at 4:45pm. The performance will take place Saturday, May 4th at 5pm. Actors should be fluent readers, but do not need to have anything prepared for the audition. Beginners welcome! If your child is cast, tuition will cover the rehearsal period, costumes, show tee shirt, and four free tickets to the show. Please register your aspiring actor below prior to auditions. An invoice will only be issued if he or she is cast. 

$400 for Twelve-Week Session    |    January 25 - May 4 (No rehearsal February 22 or March 21)
