CLASSES

Calling all actors! At Black Dog, kids can express themselves and make friends through acting & improv activities that promote personal expression and social interaction in a welcoming and friendly environment. Our classes are appropriate for beginners hoping to improve their confidence and public speaking skills as well as experienced actors looking to practice their craft and grow as performers.

STORIES ON STAGE

Grades K-1   |   1 Hour    |   Mondays @ 4pm

Our youngest actors are introduced to art of story telling and the characters that bring our favorite stories to life. Each week we will explore a different children's book, then tell our own version of the story using costumes, movement, our voices, and teamwork to create art! We also play acting games, learn simple improv games, and explore our imaginations. We will present a showcase of what we've learned for parents on the last day of class.

$150 for Six-Week Session    |    January 23 - March 13 (No class Feb. 20)

CABARET WORKSHOP

Grades 4-8   |   1 Hour   |   Mondays @ 5pm

Life is a Cabaret! In this workshop we will explore Cabaret, a style of entertainment that typically includes a collection of short performances of music, theater, and dance strung together over the course of the performance. Participants will choose an age-appropriate performance piece. In addition to learning how to write a memorable monologue/introduction, performers will work on interpretation, storytelling, and character development. We will hold in-class auditions for the Cabaret emcee and will perform for friends and family the last night of class at "The Black Dog Club".

SPRING PRODUCTION - TWO WEEKS IN THE WOODS

Grades 2-8   |   2 Hours   |   Thursdays @ 4:30pm - 6:30pm

We are excited to present our spring production that will rehearse in our studio and be performed in an area theater. Two Weeks in the Woods is an original play that takes Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and reimagines it in a sleepaway camp. There's no better way to introduce kids to Shakespeare than with modern language and charismatic characters that are fun to love and hate. Pack your footlocker and join us in the woods for a story of friendship, betrayal, drama, and magic.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, January 26th at 4:30pm. The performance will take place Saturday, May 6th (location TBA). Actors should be fluent readers, but do not need to have anything prepared for the audition. Beginners welcome! If your child is cast, tuition will cover the rehearsal period, costumes, show tee shirt, and four free tickets to the show. Please register your aspiring actor below prior to auditions. An invoice will only be issued if he or she is cast.

$400 for Twelve-Week Session    |    January 26 - May 6 (No rehearsal March 9 or March 23)
